Zonamerica: Many Teams, One Channel

Managing a free trade zone means coordinating teams with very different responsibilities, routines, and levels of access to technology. Zonamerica found in Humand a way to centralize its communications, digitize People Management processes, and ensure that information reaches every employee, regardless of where they work across the campus.

One company, multiple realities

Zonamerica manages one of Uruguay’s leading free trade zones, a business campus home to more than 300 companies and approximately 8,000 people.

The team responsible for managing its operations is made up of around 350 employees working across different areas of the campus. Their roles range from cleaning, maintenance, and security to architecture, technology, connectivity, and talent management.

This diversity represents one of the organization’s main internal challenges. Although everyone is part of the same company, their routines, responsibilities, and levels of access to technology vary significantly.

“Not everyone has access to a computer. Humand’s mobile app allowed everyone to access information from their phones, which is the one device we all have,” explains Valentina García, Talent Development Manager at Zonamerica.

From six channels to centralized communication

Before implementing Humand, the People Management team used six different channels to communicate with employees.

Messages had to be adapted for emails, broadcast lists, digital screens, physical noticeboards, the intranet, and other informal channels. This not only required a considerable amount of time but also made it difficult to measure whether the information had actually reached employees.

Each channel also required a different tone, format, and communication asset. As a result, the same message could be received differently depending on the channel used.

With Humand, Zonamerica brought all its internal communications together on a single platform that is accessible from mobile devices and easy to use for employees with varying levels of familiarity with technology.

Today, the team knows it can reach 100% of employees through a single channel. In addition, 82% view posts on the same day they are published. Notifications and readership metrics also make it possible to see in real time whether content is reaching employees and how the team is responding.

Digitizing People Management and reducing paper use

Another key objective of the implementation was to advance the digital transformation of the People Management department.

Previously, much of the documentation had to be printed, distributed across different offices, collected again, and stored in physical employee files. This process created administrative work, delays, and a level of paper use that was not aligned with the environmental commitments of a company certified under the ISO 14001 standard.

The Documents module made it possible to begin replacing these processes with digital management. Today, the team can distribute files, request signatures, and directly track who has completed each document.

This functionality was also incorporated into the onboarding process. Although some documents must still be signed on paper due to legal requirements, many others are now managed directly through Humand.

Push notifications automatically remind employees who still have a pending action, reducing manual follow-ups and freeing up time for higher-value initiatives.

A more connected team, even across the campus

The transformation was not only operational. By receiving the same information, in the same format, and through the same platform, employees began to feel more connected to what was happening in other areas of the campus.

Humand also helped Zonamerica establish a common, recognizable, and consistent internal communication style.

“Since implementing Humand, the team feels much more connected. Everyone accesses information in the same way and feels part of what other areas of the company are experiencing.”
