Staying connected beyond the construction site
For a construction company like Waller, keeping everyone connected means bridging very different day-to-day realities. Some employees spend most of their time on site, seeing projects evolve firsthand, while others work from the office managing invoices, administration and the processes that make those projects possible.
For years, Workplace had helped close that gap. So when Meta announced that it would be discontinued, Waller knew it needed an alternative that could preserve that dynamic. The company spent around six months evaluating different options, looking for something familiar enough to make the transition simple for employees, but flexible enough to fit the way the business already worked.
That search led them to Humand.
At first, the objective was simply to recreate the communication experience the team already valued. But as Waller explored the platform, the opportunity became much broader. Humand combined internal communication with tools for HR processes, documents, time off and employee resources. Instead of replacing one platform with another, Waller saw the possibility of gradually bringing several parts of the employee experience into the same place.
A familiar start, a stronger connection
The transition started with communication. Because the team was already familiar with a social, feed-based platform, moving to Humand felt natural. Waller communicated the change in advance, ran both platforms in parallel for a period of time and gave employees the opportunity to register and familiarize themselves with the new app before completing the migration. The process happened without major disruptions.
Adoption was fast. Today, Humand has reached a 100% activation rate, 95% Monthly Active Users and 87% Weekly Active Users. But the impact of that engagement is best understood through what employees are actually sharing.
Someone processing an invoice from the office may only see the cost of new materials. Through Humand, that same person can see photographs of the school those materials helped transform, follow the progress of the project and understand the result behind the task they completed.
That visibility has helped create a stronger connection between teams that might otherwise experience the business from separate perspectives.
For Waller, Groups and the Feed remain at the center of the Humand experience. They are not simply spaces to distribute company updates; they give employees a window into the work happening across the organization and reinforce the idea that every role contributes to the same projects and results.
Boosting the employee experience
Once communication was successfully established in Humand, Waller began exploring what else could be brought into the platform.
At the time, the company was also using PeopleHR to manage processes such as employee documents and time off. Rather than attempting a large migration all at once, Waller chose to move gradually, introducing a new process into Humand every few months.
Documents were an important part of that transition. HR policies, procedures and employee certificates are now stored centrally, making them easier for employees to access while giving the company a clearer record of the information available to each person.
The Knowledge Library expanded that idea further. Insurance certificates, accreditations and product information are now available from the same environment, which means an employee visiting a site or speaking with a client can find the information they need without searching across different systems.
Time Off was a more complex step. Waller has its own holiday periods, part-time working arrangements and specific leave requirements, so the standard setup did not initially reflect every aspect of the way the company operated. Rather than abandoning the process, Waller worked alongside the Humand team to adapt it to its needs.
That collaboration ultimately allowed the company to move the process across as well.
At that point, Humand evolved into the platform employees could use not only to stay connected, but also to request time off, access policies and certificates, and find important company information.
Growing with the company, one step at a time
Waller’s implementation was never about switching everything on at once. It was about choosing what made sense for the team, moving each process when it was ready and shaping the platform along the way.
The company didn’t have to figure that out alone. Whenever something needed to work differently, as it did with Time Off, the team could raise it with its Customer Success contact and find a solution together. For Waller, that support has been one of the most valuable parts of working with Humand.
Today, the person processing an invoice in the office and the team finishing a school refurbishment on site share the same updates and the same sense of what they’re building together. As Waller keeps growing, Humand is set to grow right alongside it.
“Humand has given us one place to keep our people connected and manage the HR processes they use every day. It’s made things much simpler for everyone. The whole team feels more part of what we do as a company rather than working in silos.”
