Introducing Scoring Across All Directions: A Fairer Way to Reflect Performance

Index

You asked—we delivered. With the latest update to the Performance Review module, all evaluation directions—self, peer, upward, and more—can now generate scores. This means feedback is no longer just qualitative or limited to managers; it’s measurable, comparable, and more inclusive.

One Performance Cycle, Many Perspectives

Until now, numeric scores in reviews were available only in manager evaluations. Now, every evaluation direction can contribute with its own score—enabling a fuller, more data-driven view of each person’s performance from all angles.

Why This Matters

📌 Because Feedback Is Multi-faceted—Scoring Should Be Too

This update helps companies get a more comprehensive and balanced view of performance. Whether it’s a team member self-reflecting, a peer offering insight, or a direct report giving upward feedback—now each of these perspectives can be measured and weighted.

Key benefits:

  • More complete performance snapshots: Go beyond narratives and quantify what each direction of feedback reflects.
  • Greater fairness: Normalize scores across evaluators, not just from managers.
  • Foundation for aggregated performance scoring: This is the first step toward weighted final scores across the cycle.

🛠️ What’s Included

The Scores in All Directions feature introduces scoring capabilities to all evaluation paths—not just downward (from managers).

Here’s how it works:

  • Admin-level control: When setting up a performance cycle, admins can choose which evaluation directions will generate scores.
  • Flexible configuration: You can enable or disable scores for:
    • Manager (downward) evaluations
    • Peer reviews
    • Upward reviews
    • External feedback
    • Self-evaluations
  • Template consistency required: All templates used in scoring directions must be identical to ensure results are comparable.
  • Visible scores by direction: Each eligible review will show its own score, while the final summary score still reflects the manager’s evaluation (for now).

🛑 Important: Aggregate scoring (e.g., 60% manager + 40% peer) is coming soon, but in this release, the final score remains 100% based on the manager’s review.

✨ Scoring Across All Directions in Action

Here are a few practical ways this feature can add clarity and precision to your evaluation process:

  • “I want peers to give ratings, not just written comments.” → Turn on scoring for the peer direction during cycle setup.
  • “Can my team members rate themselves in self-evaluations?” → Yes! Activate scoring for self-reviews with just one click.
  • “How do I avoid scoring bias across templates?” → Use the same template for each direction you plan to score.
  • “Will the final score reflect peer input?” → Not yet—currently it’s based on the manager’s score only, but Aggregate Score is on the roadmap.
  • “Can I turn off scores for upward feedback?” → Absolutely. Keep it qualitative by deactivating scoring for that direction.
